Heading out after a year in port

It has been a couple of years since we cruised on Respite. We spent the summer of 2023 at a slip on White Lake, MI.

While we enjoyed the summer and all the things there are to do in Whitehall, we missed all the new experiences and meeting old and new friends that come with cruising.

We left Muskegon, MI. where we store the boat for the winter, on May 25 and took the boat the 12 miles to White Lake to outfit and prepare for the cruise to the North Channel - the north side of Lake Huron where we'll spend the summer.

Respite left White Lake on June 1 headed for Ludington, a short 40-mile-run north. The hope was for an uneventful start to the summer but that was not to be but that is a story for another post.

For those just joining us, we are Cindy and Jeff Cunningham who along with their now 13-year-old cairn terrier Duncan, live aboard their 1996 Catalina 34 MKII.

We have been sailing for more than 20 years and cruising summers since 2016.

In the coming days we'll post more about our adventures, stories that we come across in our travels and photos we hope help you to see what we see.

Thanks for traveling with us.

An unidentified ketch followed us from Whitehall to Ludington.

Ludington Lighthouse, Ludington. MI

The Ludington Maritime Museum is a wonderful museum that tells the history of many things in the area.
